Colts Expected To Sign Veteran QB Josh Johnson

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Colts are expected to sign veteran QB Josh Johnson to a contract now that they’ve placed Andrew Luck on injured reserve.

On Wednesday, the Colts attempted to sign Nate Sudfeld off of the Eagles’ practice squad, but Philadelphia managed to keep him around by promoting him to their active roster.

The Colts brought in four free agent QBs for workouts earlier in the week including Johnson, Matt Barkley, Matt McGloin, and Connor Shaw, but it appears as though he was the most impressive of the group.

Johnson, 31, is a former fifth-round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2012. Since then, Johnson has played for a number of teams including the 49ers, Browns, Bengals, Chargers, Jets, Colts and most recently for the Bills.

The Ravens signed him to a contract back in May of last year before cutting him loose coming out of the preseason. Johnson later caught on with the Giants but was once again released at the start of the regular season.

Johnson hasn’t appeared in an NFL game since the 2013 season while playing for the Bengals.
