Colts Finish Second Interview With Josh McDaniels, Set To Hire Him After Super Bowl

Adam Schefter reports that the Colts completed their second interview with Patriots OC Josh McDaniels on Friday and are set to officially hire him after the Super Bowl.

This should come as no surprise, given that reports have said Indianapolis was zeroed in on McDaniels for a few weeks now.

Although, Chris Mortensen reports that Colts owner Jim Irsay wasn’t present for the team’s first interview with McDaniels. Irsay traveled to New England for the recent interview along with GM Chris Ballard and it appears as though nothing happened during the meeting to deter the Colts from hiring McDaniels as their next head coach.

McDaniels is expected to hire Cowboys LBs coach Matt Eberflus as his defensive coordinator and Raiders QBs coach Jake Peetz as his offensive coordinator with the Colts once he officially agrees to a deal.

McDaniels, 41, began his NFL coaching career with the Patriots as a personnel assistant back in 2001. He worked his way up to offensive coordinator in New England before he departed for the Broncos head-coaching job in 2009.

Unfortunately, things didn’t go very well for McDaniels with the Broncos and he was fired during his second year with the team.

After a brief stint with the Rams as their offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, McDaniels returned to the Patriots and has been running their offense ever since.
