Colts HC Chuck Pagano Has Been Forced Into Making Lineup Decisions By Front Office

Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star reports that team leaders on the Colts called a players-only meeting last week and urged their fellow teammates to block out distractions that stem from the issues between the coaching staff and front office.

The meeting between the players was designed to galvanize the locker room, according to Holder.

Players have told Holder that HC Chuck Pagano and his staff are being directed to follow lineup decisions recommended by the front office.

This has been a recurring source of irritation for Pagano and his coaches,” Holder writes. “During the past several weeks, and even dating to last season, there have been instances in which, sources said, players approached Pagano or his assistants with suggestions or requests, only to be told they could not act on the ideas because of forces beyond their control.”

The players are also concerned about Pagano’s future, as he’s clearly on the hot seat along with GM Ryan Grigson.

Holder believes the decision to fire OC Pep Hamilton and promote Rob Chudzinski will at least buy Pagano a few weeks, but they’re up against an undefeated Broncos team this week and travel to Atlanta for a game against the Falcons.

There has been speculation that Chudzinski could be promoted to interim head coach in the event the Colts part ways with Pagano mid-season.

We’ll have more regarding the Colts as the news is available.
