Colts Expect To Have Andrew Luck Under Contract In The Near Future

Mike Chappell of the Indianapolis Star writes that the Colts general manger Jim Irsay expects to have QB Andrew Luck under contract sooner rather than later.

Irsay said that this is “something that should be done swiftly” and that “there shouldn’t be a difficult process with that.

With the new rookie wage scale in place, signing draft picks has become much easier as the room for negotiating has essentially been eliminated.  Chappell adds that Luck’s contract will most likely “mirror” that of QB Cam Newton‘s four-year $22 million contract.

Albert Breer of NFL.com reports that the Indianapolis Colts are currently in the “early stages” of contract negotiations with No. 1 overall pick Andrew Luck.

Luck will most likely end up with a four-year deal worth $22 million and includes a fifth-year option that would pay him quarterback transition-tag number.

Breer mentions that a deal is unlikely to be finalized this weekend, he’ll almost certainly be under contract by June 7 when his Stanford school year ends.
