Colts One Of The “Frontrunners” To Sign CFL WR Duron Carter

Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star reports that the Colts remain one of the “frontrunners” to sign CFL WR Duron Carter to a contract in the coming weeks.

According to Holder, the other team to watch is the Vikings, who have shown a great deal of interest in Carter since he became available.

Sources tell Holder that the Colts have maintained dialogue with Carter since he visited with the team a few weeks ago. However, it remains to be seen which way he’s leaning as of now.

Carter’s interest in the Colts reportedly stems from the presence of QB Andrew Luck and the team’s productive offense.

Ben Goessling of ESPN.com reported a few days ago Carter is eliminated the pool of interested NFL teams down to “two finalists.”

  • Goessling also mentioned that negotiations with Carter have been slowed in recent days to due to teams being at Senior Bowl this week.

Carter has reportedly received an offer from the Vikings and the Colts and Panthers were expected to extend him offers as well. The Browns have also come up as a potential option for Carter.

His contract with the Montreal Alouettes ended a few months ago, but he won’t be able to official sign with an NFL team until February 10 due to the CFL-NFL agreement.

Carter, 23, caught 75 passes for 1,030 yards and seven touchdowns to go along with 40 yards rushing.

We’ll have more updates regarding Carter and his NFL options as the news is available.
