Colts QB Andrew Luck “Doing Great”, Expected To Be Ready For 2018 Season

Colts owner Jim Irsay tells Ian Rapoport of NFL Media that all signs are pointing toward QB Andrew Luck returning for the 2018 season as he works his way back from the shoulder issues that led to him sitting out the entire season.

He’s doing great,” Irsay said. “He’s doing well. [We’re] disappointed obviously it’s taken as long as it’s taken. You know, medicine and the way it goes. But there hasn’t been any unusal setback. We didn’t find out anything ominous, something we didn’t know about or anything like that. It’s just taken time for him to go through his whole aspect of rehabbing and progressing and working through the soreness.”

Irsay added that Luck should be returning home from Europe at some in the near future and he did not undergo any other surgical procedures on his shoulder.

“He’s still in Europe but he’s coming home very shortly,” Irsay told Rapoport. “No additional surgery at this point planned.”

Luck reportedly saw between 4-5 doctors regarding his shoulder issues including the doctor who performed the original shoulder surgery and the consensus was that he should stop throwing for 2-3 months and allow the injury to heal on its own.

Luck was reportedly told that playing through a labrum tear for two years messed up his shoulder and caused other issues while also messing with his throwing mechanics.

Last month, Luck said he’s “very optimistic” about his future, despite the disappointing missing the entire season.

“I wish I was better and 100 percent this season, but that’s not the case,” Luck said. “I know I’ll be better from this. I know I’ll be a better quarterback, teammate, person and player from this, and I’m excited for the future.

Luck, 28, is a former first-round pick of the Colts back in 2012. He’s currently in the second year of his six-year, $139.125 million contract that includes $87 million guaranteed and is set to make base salaries of $12 million and $9.125 million of $12 million over the next two year of the contract.

In 2016, Luck appeared in 15 games and thrown for 4,240 yards while completing 63.5 percent of his passes for 31 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 4 quarterback out of 36 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Luck’s return as the news is available.
