Colts RB Frank Gore Says He’ll Return Next Year If There’s A Great Situation For Him

Colts RB Frank Gore mentioned that he’s hoping to finish out the year strong and put himself in position to secure another opportunity next year.

“I want to finish strong to give myself an opportunity for a team to want me,” Gore said, via the Indianapolis Star. “If there’s a great situation, I’m gonna play.”

Gore has a chance to surpass the 1,000-yard mark for the 10th time in his NFL career over the next three weeks.

“If I do that, that would be real big,” Gore said. “I’ve been told since I was 28 what I can’t do or (that I) will fall off this year. I’m out there and I’m still going and still having fun and showing people on film that I can play this game.

It seems unlikely that Gore will be back with the Colts next year, given that they made him available for trade ahead of the deadline and are clearly looking to get younger across the board.

Gore, 34, is a former third-round pick of the 49ers back in 2005. He spent 10 seasons in San Francisco before signing a three-year, $12 million contract that included $7.5 million guaranteed with the Colts back in 2015.

Gore will make a base salary of $3.5 million for the 2017 season before becoming an unrestricted free agent next year.

In 2017, Gore has appeared in 13 games and rushed for 762 yards on 210 carries (3.6 YPC) to go along with 21 receptions for 179 yards receiving and three total touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 28 running back out of 55 qualifying players.
