Colts Re-Sign RB Matt Jones After Clearing Waivers

The Indianapolis Colts announced Monday that they’ve re-signed RB Matt Jones after he passed through waivers unclaimed.

  • The team also signed CB Taurean Nixon to their practice squad.

The Colts’ practice squad now consists of:

  1. QB Phillip Walker
  2. TE Mo Alie-Cox
  3. DB Ronald Martin
  4. DB Denzel Rice
  5. DT Anthony Johnson
  6. WR Dres Anderson
  7. LB Joshua Perry
  8. G Isaiah Williams
  9. OT Andreas Knappe
  10. CB Taurean Nixon

Jones, 24, is a former third-round pick of the Redskins back in 2015. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $2.952 million contract and was set to make a base salary of $639,113 in 2017.

The Colts claimed Jones off of waivers from the Redskins, as they cut their roster down to 53 players coming out of the preseason. Jones has been on and off of their roster this season.

In 2016, Jones has appeared in seven games and rushed for 490 yards on 144 carries (3.4 YPC) to go along with 19 receptions for 304 yards receiving and four total touchdowns.

So far this season, Jones has appeared in three games and recorded 14 rushing yards on five attempts (2.8 YPC).
