The Indianapolis Colts announced Monday that they’ve released QB Josh Freeman.
Some assumed that Freeman could open training camp as the team’s backup quarterback after the news that they planned to move on from Matt Hasselbeck this offseason. However, it appears as though they have other plans for their backup quarterback position.
Freeman, 27, was taken in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Buccaneers. He wound up playing four years for the Bucs before they cut him loose in July of 2012.
He had brief stints with the Vikings, Giants and Dolphins before the Colts gave him a shot towards the end of last year.
In 2015, Freeman appeared in one game and completed 53.6 percent of his passes for 149 yards, one touchdown and an interception.
