Colts Release Veteran RT Gosder Cherilus

The Indianapolis Colts announced Sunday that they’ve released RT Gosder Cherilus.

There was talk that Cherilus could end up being be released this summer, but it seemed like he would at least get an opportunity to compete this summer.

Cherilus, 31, signed five-year, $34.5 million contract that included $15.5 million guaranteed with the Colts back in 2013. He still had three years remaining on his contract and would have made a base salary of $4 million for the upcoming season.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Cherilus will free up $4 million in available cap space while creating $2.9 million in dead money.

In 2014, Cherilus was limited to appearing 13 games for the Colts. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 70 offensive tackle out of 84 qualifying players.
