Colts Rule Out Andrew Luck For Week 2’s Game Against Cardinals

Colts HC Chuck Pagano announced Monday that QB Andrew Luck will ultimately miss Week 2’s game against the Cardinals and it remains to be seen whether he’ll practice this week.

This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, given that there’s talk Luck may not return until October at some point, but it’s notable that Indianapolis didn’t waste any time ruling him out.

The Colts started Scott Tolzien at quarterback for the season opener against the Rams he was benched in favor of newly acquired QB Jacoby Brissett. It will be interesting to see if they turn the job over to Brissett this week, considering that he offers a far higher upside at the position.

Luck, 27, is a former first-round pick of the Colts back in 2012. He’s currently in the second year of his six-year, $139.125 million contract that includes $87 million guaranteed and is set to make a base salary of $12 million for the 2016 season.

In 2016, Luck has appeared in 15 games and thrown for 4,240 yards while completing 63.5 percent of his passes for 31 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 4 quarterback out of 36 qualifying players.
