Colts S Clayton Geathers Will Miss First Six Games Of Season On Reserve/PUP List

Colts GM Chris Ballard announced Monday that S Clayton Geathers (neck) will open the regular season on reserve/PUP list, which means he’ll miss at least the first six weeks of the 2017 season.

  • Ballard also said veteran OL Brian Schwenke and DE Kendall’s Langford will be placed on the active/PUP list.

Geathers previously underwent surgery for a bulging disc in his neck and his status for Week 1 was in question, so this doesn’t come as a complete surprise.

Geathers, 25, is a former fourth-round pick of the Colts back in 2015. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $3.126 million rookie contract and stands to make base salaries of $615,000 and $705,000 over the final two years of the agreement.

In 2016, Geathers appeared in nine games and recorded 59 tackles, on interceptions, a forced fumble, and five pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 26 safety out of 90 qualifying players.
