Colts Sign DE Chris McCain, Waive TE Randall Telfer

The Indianapolis Colts announced that they have signed DE Chris McCain to a contract on Tuesday and waived TE Randall Telfer with a failed physical designation.

Last month, the Chargers rescinded an original-round restricted tender from McCain, which would have cost them $1.907 for the 2018 season.

McCain, 26, wound up going undrafted out of California back in 2014. He’s managed to make the 53-man roster in each of his first two years in the NFL and was in the final year of his three-year, $1.53 million rookie contract when he was traded from the Dolphins to the Saints.

He was waived shortly after being traded to New Orleans as the team cut their roster down to 53 players. Dallas signed him to their practice squad just a few days later but unfortunately waived him.

McCain returned to the Saints and was off and on off their active before eventually signing on to the Chargers practice squad. Los Angeles re-signed him to a one-year futures deal last year.

In 2017, he appeared in 15 games for the Chargers and recorded 20 total tackles, five sacks, and two forced fumbles.
