Colts Officially Re-Sign K Adam Vinatieri To One-Year, $3.875M Deal

Update:

The Indianapolis Colts announced Monday that they’ve re-signed kicker Adam Vinatieri to a contract extension.

  • Ian Rapoport reports that Vinatieri receives a one-year contract worth $3.875 million.

Adam is not only one of the greatest Colts in team history, but one of the greatest players in NFL history,” said Colts General Manager Chris Ballard. “He is an ideal representative for our organization, the Indianapolis community and Colts fans everywhere. We value Adam’s reliability and feel he will continue to kick at a high level. In addition to his performance on the field, he brings a tremendous amount of leadership to our locker room. He sets the standard for what it means to be a professional and how to properly prepare, especially for our younger players. We’re privileged to watch him continue his iconic career for another season.

Adam Schefter reports that the Colts and veteran K Adam Vinatieri are finalizing a one-year contract on Friday for the 2019 season.

It became clear in recent weeks that a deal was likely to get done between the two parties, so this doesn’t come as a big surprise.

Vinatieri said after the season that if the team wants him back next year, “[he] can’t imagine (I’d) not keep playing.”

Vinatieri, 46, originally signed on with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent out of South Dakota State back in 1996. He played seven years in New England before signing on with the Colts in 2006.

Since then, Vinatieri has played another 13 years in Indianapolis and is in position to be an unrestricted free agent in the coming months.

In 2018, Vinatieri appeared in 16 games for the Colts and converted 23 of 27 field goal attempts (85.2 percent) to go along with 44 of 47 extra point tries (93.6 percent).
