Colts Sign Veteran S Mike Mitchell, Waive CB Lenzy Pipkins

Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that the Colts are signing veteran S Mike Mitchell to a contract on Tuesday.

Indianapolis has already confirmed the news and announced the release of CB Lenzy Pipkins.

The Colts are dealing with several injuries right now, particularly in their secondary, so it’s not surprising to see them bring in some help.

Mitchell, 31, is a former second-round pick of the Raiders back in 2009. After four years in Oakland and a brief stint with the Panthers, Mitchell signed a five-year, $25 million contract with $5.75 million guaranteed with the Steelers back in 2014.

Unfortunately, the Steelers released him back in March.

In 2017, Mitchell appeared in 13 games for the Steelers and recorded 53 tackles, no interceptions, a fumble recovery and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 62 safety out of 87 qualifying players.

We had him featured in our Top 50 Available 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
