Colts Worked Out Veteran G Donald Thomas

Field Yates of ESPN first reported that the Colts brought back veteran G Donald Thomas for a tryout on Saturday.

  • Aaron Wilson adds that the Colts also worked out G Ben Heenan and brought in LB Josh Martin for a visit in recent days.

It’s interesting to hear that the Colts are taking a look at a player who wound up being a free agent bust for them, but they could be checking to see what kind of shape he’s in if they end up needing some interior offensive line help down the road.

Thomas, 30, is a former sixth-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2008. He spent two years in Miami before he was cut at the start of the 2010 season.

After that, Thomas had brief stints with the Lions and Patriots before signing a four-year, $14 million contract that included a $1 million signing bonus with the Colts in March of 2013.

However, the Colts elected to release him at the start of the season, even though he had two years remaining on the deal.

Thomas hasn’t appeared in an NFL game since the 2013 season, and that year he was limited to playing in just two games.
