Colts Working On Contract Extension For K Adam Vinatieri

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Colts are working on a contract extension for veteran K Adam Vinatieri.

  • Rapoport mentions that this was an “open secret” at the Combine and notes that Vinatieri is very respected in Indianapolis.

Vinatieri previously told the Indianapolis Star that he plans to continue playing in 2016 and possibly beyond that.

“Not only a season, but Lord willing, a couple of years,” Vinatieri said. “There will come a time when it’s over for me. I don’t think that time is yet. I enjoy playing. I enjoy doing my thing.

Vinatieri added that he plans to speak with the team about a new contract when the time is right.

After taking a little bit of downtime, I’ve been keeping up with the Colts picking up some coaches,” Vinatieri said. “I know they’ve been really busy. I just figure they’ll call me when it’s time.”

Vinatieri, 43, played out his two-year, $5 million contract that he signed with the Colts back in 2014 and will be an unrestricted free agent in the coming months.

In 2015, he appeared in all 16 games and converted 25 of 27 (92.6 percent) field goal attempts to go along with 32 of 35 extra point attempts (91.4 percent). Pro Football Focus rated Vinatieri as the No. 24 overall kicker out of 60 qualifiers.

We’ll have regarding Vinatieri and the Colts as the news is available.
