Colts Would Like To Re-Sign K Adam Vinatieri

Colts owner Jim Irsay said he would like to re-sign impending free agent K Adam Vinatieri.

We’d like to retain Adam. He is still kicking at a high level. He really takes care of himself,” said Irsay, via Mike Chappell of CBS 4 Indianapolis. “Him and Pat McAfee really complement each other. Obviously that’s been one of the strengths of our football team.”

We’d like to retain Adam and I think we’re hopeful we’ll be able to.’’

In addition, Irsay admitted that he prefers to retain his own players over venturing to the free agent market.

The first priority is keeping our own, the ones that we identify as being really important to the team,’’ Irsay said. “I’ve always felt that keeping your own guys is even more important than who you get in free agency.”

Vinatieri, 43, completed his two-year, $5 million contract that he signed back in 2014. In 2015, he appeared in all 16 games and converted 25 of 27 field goal attempts.

Pro Football Focus rated Vinatieri as the No. 24 overall kicker out of 60 qualifiers.

We will provide more information regarding Vinatieri and the Colts as the news becomes available.
