Jason Cole of B/R points out that with the news that second-round LB Reggie Ragland is likely to miss his rookie season due to an ACL injury, five of the last eight first- or second-round picks by the Bills have been injured and missed significant time.
According to Cole, there are people within the Bills who are wondering why GM Doug Whaley hasn’t taken more blame for taking high-risk players others who haven’t panned out. On top of that, the Bills actually extended Whaley’s contract several months ago.
Before the Bills somewhat surprisingly signed Whaley to an extension and prevented him from being a lame-duck GM, there had been talk that he and HC Rex Ryan could be entering make-or-break seasons in 2016.
Even with the new extensions for Whaley and Ryan, the expectation could be at least a playoff berth in 2016 or changes could be considered.
Whaley, 43, took over as the Bills’ GM in 2013 and has led them to a record of 23-25 to go along with one winning season and no playoff appearances.
