Concerns Surrounding Dwyane Bowe May Have Prevented Him From Being Traded

Tom Pelissero of ESPN 1500 Twin Cities writes that a Dwayne Bowe trade was never going to happen for a number of reasons.

“Any player available at this time of year is available for a reason,” writes Pelissero.

He adds that Bowe would already have signed a “long-term megadeal he wants if the Chiefs trusted him.” Pelissero also mentions that some NFL scouts have graded him as No. 2 receiver, which is obviously cause for concern. Bowe has had issues with weight in the past and there’s also some concer regarding his overall work ethic and leadership.

As we’ve mentioned a number of times now, one of the main inhibiting factors during the NFL trade deadline is the nature of the game. It’s much harder to take a wide receiver and expect him to start the following week, because it’s just not that easy to pick up a team’s offensive scheme and produce.

The Chiefs franchised Bowe during the offseason and still owe him $5.04 million for the remainder of the season. There’s no question that Bowe is looking for a huge contract, but he seems to also want of Kansas City, which is hardly surprising given the current state of the team.

We have Bowe listed as the No. 3 best available player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
