Contract Extension Could Be Coming For Falcons WR Roddy White

Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com writes that the Falcons could approach WR Roddy White regarding an extension at some point in the near future.

Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff mentioned a few months ago that they would approach some of their players regarding extensions following the draft, and White appears to be at or near the top of the list.

White, 32, has one year remaining on his current contract that includes a $5 million base salary for the 2014 season. According to Overthecap.com, White has a $6.325 million cap figure, so another benefit for the Falcons would be that an extension would almost certainly reduce that number.

According to McClure, White could be in line for a similar contract to that of Colts WR Reggie Wayne who received a three-year extension worth $17.5 million with $7.5 million guaranteed.

Previously, White mentioned that he would like to play another three or four years in the NFL. However, it is worth noting that White is coming off of a down season by his standards, but the same can be said of almost everyone on the Falcons roster.

Over the course of his career, White has been one of the most durable players in the NFL. In factm he missed the first games of his career this past season due to hamstring and ankle injuries.

His final 2013 stats include 55 receptions for 620 yards receiving and two touchdowns.
