Contract Extension Could Be Coming For Ravens G Marshal Yanda

Jamison Hensley of ESPN writes that “it makes too much sense” for the Ravens to sign Pro Bowl G Marshal Yanda to a contract extension this offseason.

Hensley believes the Ravens should get a long-term deal in place with Yanda that would allow him to finish his career as a member of the Ravens.

With the Ravens in a tough salary cap position, and few easy options to free up cap space, addressing Yanda’s contract and in turn reducing his cap figure seems like a win-win for Baltimore.

Hensley points out that the Ravens could create “at least” $2 million while doubling the amount of money Yanda would make for the 2015 season.

Yanda, 30, still has one year remaining on his five-year, $32.5 million contract that included $10 million guaranteed. He stands to make a base salary of $5.5 million for the 2015 season, which is very reasonable given how good he’s been in recent years.

In 2014, Yanda appeared in all 16 games for the Ravens, while playing a total of 1012 snaps. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 1 guard in the league by a huge margin, due in large part to an impressive run-blocking rating.
