Contract Talks Between Cowboys & Anthony Spencer Have Been “Cordial & Productive”

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that talks between the Cowboys and DE Anthony Spencer regarding a contract extension have “cordial and productive.”

La Canfora mentions that “it would be a stretch to say they’re close to a deal,” but ad admits that there’s at least a chance the two sides could reach an agreement before the upcoming deadline to negotiate with franchised players.

Dallas has tagged Spencer for the past two seasons, which will cost them $8.9 million and $10.7 million respectively.

Spencer, 29, is coming off of a very productive season for the Cowboys in which he tallied 95 tackles and 11 sacks. Dallas will be moving him to defensive end next season, so there’s at least some question as to whether or not he’ll be able to produce similar numbers in 2013.

We have Spencer listed as the No. 23 player in our Top 50 – 2014 Free Agents list.
