Contract Talks Between The Falcons & QB Matt Ryan Are Ongoing

D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that contract talks are ongoing between the Falcons and QB Matt Ryan.

Ryan, 28, is in the final year of his rookie contract and stands to make $10 million for the upcoming season. As of now, he counts $12 million against the team’s salary cap, which really is not all that bad when you consider some of the other cap hits from quarterbacks around the league.

  • Jason Cole reports that Ryan will get more money than Joe Flacco and could come close to the contract signed by Aaron Rodgers.

There has been consistent speculation that Ryan will secure a deal similar to the ones signed by Flacco and Rodgers this offseason. The general expectation is that Ryan will get close to $18-20 million per year and $50 million guaranteed.

For what it’s worth, Rodgers signed seven-year deal worth $130.75 million that includes $54 million guaranteed.

All indications are that the Falcons are prepared to get this deal done at some point in the new future and prevent Ryan from hitting the open market in 2014.

We have Ryan listed as the No. 1 player in our Top 50 – 2014 Free Agents list.
