Cortland Finnegan’s Ready For The Open Market

Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports tweets that he expects to see the Buccaneers, Cowboys, Bears, Vikings, Broncos and Rams all in on CB Cortland Finnegan once he hits the open market.

Cole also mentions that he’ll most likely be able to secure a deal worth $11 million per season.

Jim Wyatt of the Nashville Tennessean reports the Titans haven’t met with with free agent-to-be Cortland Finnegan to discuss a long-term contract. Wyatt expects him to hit the open market a week from tomorrow.

Last night, the Titans should their franchise tag on FS Michael Griffin even though many see Finnegan as the more dominate player. Finnegan is believed to be looking for a deal in the range of five- to six-years that includes a base salary of around $10 million per season.

Finnegan will almost certainly secure a large deal from one of the team’s looking to add depth at cornerback but I don’t think that I’d be willing to give him that kind of money. Instead, I’d probably target someone like Mario Williams, but position needs tend to force team’s to take some risks in the free agent market. Finnegan is coming off of a great season but, according to Pro Football Focus, he put together an equally disappointing season back in 2010.

  1. tamap should take this kid he’s got some youth in him and he’s good and also tampa has the money to risk getting him. if they can’t get him turn to mario williams, curtis lofton, and maybe just maybe kamieron wimbley laron landry etc. for some help at Dspot and turn to v-jax, carl nicks, michael bush etc. for help on O. i’m saying if tampa bay can get half of these guys from free agency and get awesome rookies willing to play from the draft then we have a fighting chance of doing great next season.
