Cowboys “Absolutely” Open To Long-Term Extension For DE Greg Hardy

Cowboys VP Stephen Jones said Monday during an interview with 105.3 The Fan that they would “absolutely” be interested in a long-term extension with DE Greg Hardy, per Jon Machota.

According to Jones, the idea of extending Hardy’s contract to be “very much a possibility.”

Jones added that they don’t have any concerns about Hardy’s personality, saying: “Not at all. Zero. Got a lot respect from his teammates,” per Machota.

Meanwhile, Cowboys HC Jason Garrett told reporters that he addressed Hardy following his sideline incident in which Hardy was seen fighting with their special teams coordinator and teammates including Dez Bryant.

Garrett also mentioned that Hardy won’t be disciplined for his actions, and added that people outside of the building are making a bigger deal of the situation than the people inside the building, per Machota.

Hardy, 26, signed a one-year contract worth $11.3 million with the Cowboys that includes weekly bonuses as a way to protect the team from him missing a number of games. The contract also includes another $1.8044 million sack-based incentives.

After the season, Hardy is in line to be an unrestricted free agent, and one of the best available pass rushers on the open market.

This season, Hardy has appeared in two games and recorded eight tackles, three sacks, and a forced fumble for the Cowboys.
