Cowboys CB Brandon Carr’s Contract Officially Voided Today

Joel Corry of CBS Sports points out that Cowboys CB Brandon Carr‘s contract officially voided on Tuesday, making him a free agent at the start of the new league year.

According to Corry, the Cowboys will carry a 2017 salary cap charge of $2.717 million for Carr.

Carr has previously mentioned that he plans to contemplate retirement during the offeason, so we’ll have to see if he plans on returning for the 2017 season.

Some have suggested that a return to the Cowboys could make sense, considering that he could come at a reasonable price.

Carr, 30, is a former fifth-round pick of the Chiefs back in 2008. After four years in Kansas City, Carr signed a five-year, $50.1 million contract that included $25.5 million guaranteed with the Cowboys in 2012.

In 2016, Carr appeared in all 16 games for the Cowboys and recorded 61 tackles, one interception and nine pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 52 cornerback out of 114 qualifying players.
