Cowboys Officially Sign CB Orlando Scandrick To A One-Year, $9.5M Extension

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Cowboys and CB Orlando Scandrick have reached an agreement on a contract extension.

According to Rapoport, Scandrick receives a one-year extension worth $9.5 million.
His five-year contract is now valued at $20 million.
Scandrick will receive $4 million this season fully guaranteed, according to Clarence Hill.
After that, Scandrick will make $5 million in 2016 rather than the $3 million he was owed.

Recent reports mentioned that Scandrick made the decision to report to offseason workouts after skipping the first phase and forfeiting $500,000 in his base salary for not being attendance.

Scandrick and his agent, Ron Slavin, met with the Cowboys last week regarding a reworked contract, and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones even mentioned that he was optimistic they could get something worked out, so this doesn’t come as a complete surprise.

Even though Scandrick lost some money by sitting out of offseason workouts, he can make up for it with his new contract.

Scandrick, 28, has been the Cowboys best cornerback in recent years and is grossly under paid for his level of play in terms of market value.

He had has another four years remaining on his six-year, $28.2 million contract that included $10 million guaranteed. Scandrick will make base salaries of $1.5 million (2015), and $3 million from 2016 – 2018.

In 2014, Scandrick appeared in 14 games and recorded 55 tackles, one sack, two interceptions, fourced fumbles, and nine pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 10 cornerback out of 110 qualifying players.
