Cowboys Could Consider Trading CB Morris Claiborne?

Calvin Watkins of ESPN Dallas wonders if the Cowboys should consider the idea of possibly trading former first-round pick CB Morris Claiborne this offseason.

Watkins admits that this would be a “bold move” on the part of Dallas, but adds that “Claiborne shouldn’t be the third corner on this team.” According to Watkins, Orlando Scandrick is “just better” than Claiborne right now.

Assuming that the Cowboys would even consider this option, Watkins believes Dallas would only be able to secure a third-round pick in return for Claiborne.

That kind of compensation is hardly enticing, especially when you consider what the Cowboys gave up for him.

It’s been two years since the Cowboys traded a first and second-round pick to the Rams in order to move up the board and select Claiborne at No. 6 overall, and so far the Cowboys have been rewarded with two seasons worth of injuries and disappointments from the LSU product. According to Watkins, the Cowboys had Claiborne’s skill set graded to that of Deion Sanders.

Even though Claiborne could end up being a bust, depending on how the next two years go, Watkins still believes the Cowboys are better off giving him the opportunity to get things turned around in 2014.

Last year, Claiborne totaled 26 tackle, one interception and a fumble recovery for the Cowboys over the course of 10 games. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 90 cornerback in the league.

  1. Mn you are so right it is stupid n not just for the cowboys but for whoever trades for him cowboys gave up too much for him ..actually it would be good for the other team if he would get healthy ..Raiders will rise 2014

  2. stupidest idea I have heard of yet. Claiborne is a stud and although last year was not his finest….just watch. He will become the anchor in defense that Dallas needs. This would be a dumb move – just dumb.
