Cowboys Cut Five Players Including RB Ben Malena

Todd Archer of ESPN reports that the Cowboys cut five players on Friday to free up roster spots for their undrafted rookie signings.

The players released include: OT Reshod Fortenberry (failed physical), DE Ken Boatright (failed physical, DT Chris Whaley, CB Buddy Jackson and RB Ben Malena.

Malena, 23, originally signed on with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of Texas A&M back in May of 2014. He was waived with an injury settlement at the start of the 2014 season, but later signed a future/reserve contract with the Texans.

Houston wound up cutting Malena loose after last year’s draft and he returned to the Cowbooys for the preseason, but was unfortunately among their final roster cuts. Dallas elected to sign him to a future/reserve contract a few months ago.

Malena has yet to appear in an NFL game.
