Cowboys DE Randy Gregory Had Another Relapse, Could Face Discipline

Adam Schefter reports that Cowboys DE Randy Gregory suffered a substance-related relapse last month and the NFL could rule on possibly discipline as early as this week.

Sources in Dallas have told Schefter that they through the NFL would decide whether to discipline Gregory last week, but the league is still looking over the case factoring in the steps that Gregory has taken over the past month since his setback.

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports mentioned a few weeks ago that there could be “more trouble ahead” for Gregory, but didn’t offer any specifics beyond that.

Gregory worked pretty hard to earn his reinstatement from the league last month and the Cowboys elected to stand by him and maintained that he’s part of their plans moving forward, so it would be a big let down to see him suspended not long after.

The NFL has been more lenient in terms of substance abuse violations for repeat offenders this year, so we’ll have to see what comes of this in the next few weeks.

Gregory, 25, is a former second-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2015. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $3.814 million contract that includes $1.404 million guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $705,000 for the 2018 season.

Gregory wound up missing the entire 2017 season while serving a suspension for another failed drug test.

In 2016, Gregory appeared in two games for the Cowboys and recorded nine tackles and a sack.
