NFL Won’t Allow Cowboys DE Randy Gregory To Practice This Week, Suspension Still Being Appealed

Todd Archer of ESPN reports that the NFL has informed the Cowboys that DE Randy Gregory will not be allowed to practice on Wednesday.

According to Archer, there had been hope that Gregory could begin to practice before the penalty ends in hopes of getting close to game ready for the final two games of the regular season.

However, it looks like Gregory won’t be returning to the NFL at any point in the near future.

Albert Breer reports that Cowboys DE Randy Gregory is eligible to return to practice this week. However, his latest suspension still under appeal with the NFL.

Breer adds that Gregory still won’t be eligible to play until Week 16 against the Lions but the Cowboys will have him at practice tomorrow.

Gregory failed yet another drug test last month is now facing a year-long suspension as a result.

Gregory has served a 10-game suspension on top of the four-game suspension he received back in February for another violation of the NFL substance-abuse policy. He has failed four drug tests before this with the first violation coming at the scouting combine.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones mentioned a few months ago that Gregory had yet to complete rehab but said he was hoping Gregory would continue to seek help.

Gregory, 23, is a former second-round pick of the Cowboys back in May of last year. He’s currently in the second year of his four-year, $3.814 million contract that includes $1.404 million guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $525,000 for the 2016 season.

In 2015, Gregory appeared in 12 games for the Cowboys and recorded 11 tackles and no sacks.
