Cowboys Decline WR Terrance Williams’ 2019 Option

Field Yates reports that the Cowboys declined the option on WR Terrance Williams, making him an unrestricted free agent in March.

It was clear that Williams’ time in Dallas was likely to end this offseason, so this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.

Last year, Williams was placed on injured reserve in October before being suspended three games for violating the NFL’s Substance Abuse Policy.

Williams, 29, is a former third-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2013. He played out the final year of his rookie contract and made a base salary of $1.686 million for the 2016 season before signing a four-year, $17 million contract that included $9.5 million guaranteed.

Williams was set to make a base salary of $3.5 million for the 2019 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, this move will free up $2.25 million of available cap space while creating $2.5 million in dead money.

In 2018, Williams appeared in three games for the Cowboys and caught two passes for 18 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
