Cowboys Hoping To Lock Up RB DeMarco Murray To A Long-Term Deal

Cowboys CEO Stephen Jones mentioned during a interview with 105.3 The Fan Monday that they would like to RB DeMarco Murray under team control long-term.

“We certainly wouldn’t be against that,” Jones said, via the Dallas Morning News. “Long term, we’ve told DeMarco that we’d love to have him here. At the end of the day, it’s no different than Dez [Bryant], we want to keep our good players and DeMarco is one of them. I think I said something to that effect in camp. He’s a guy that we would like to see stay here long term. He’s certainly only increased our desire to have him stay.

Murray, 26, has been extremely impressive to start the season as he’s ran for 285 yards on 51 carries (5.6 YPC) and scored two touchdowns. He entering the final year of his rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $1.406 million for the 2014 season.

Dallas had been discussing a long-term extension for Pro Bowl WR Dez Bryant, but recent reports mentioned that talks have been tabled in the past few weeks to allow Bryant to focus strictly on football. It seems likely that Murray would have to wait until Bryant’s situation is resolved, but this could come down to his asking price.

Murray would fair pretty well on the open market as long as he can stay healthy for the remainder of the season.
