Cowboys Hoping To Re-Sign QB Tony Romo

ESPN’s Ed Werder reports the Dallas Cowboys have begun “very preliminary” talks with QB Tony Romo regarding a contract extension.

Werder adds that the Cowboys were actually the ones who reached out to Romo regarding the matter.

As of now, Romo is in the fifth year of a six year, $67.4 million contract that he signed back in 2007. Romo has his critics, but he clearly gives them a good shot of winning games when he’s healthy. He’s currently 32 years old, so he has some productive years ahead of him. There has been speculation in the past that Dallas could look to draft a young quarterback to eventually replace Romo, and while that is still a possibility at some point, keeping him for the foreseeable future will allow them to focus on building a Super Bowl caliber team.
