Cowboys Hosting Veteran QB Josh McCown For A Visit

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Cowboys are bringing in veteran QB Josh McCown for a visit on Wednesday.

Last we heard regarding McCown, Ed Werder of ESPN reported that there’s “mutual interest” between the two parties.

Both Mark Sanchez and Kellen Moore are in line to be free agents and still potential options to be re-signed, but it sounds like Dallas may prefer to see if they can get something done with McCown before turning their attention to their own free agents.

McCown mentioned in an interview with Sirius XM NFL Radio that he’s spoken to 4-5 teams since he was released by the Browns a few weeks ago and he’s excited about these teams.

Even so, McCown plans to take his time finding his next team and stressed that finding the situation is important to him. According to McCown, one big factor for him will be location, as well as the organization structure and the ability to compete, per Sirius.

McCown did say that if he’s going to agree to be a backup for a team, he’d like to sign with a team that has a young quarterback for him to work with, per Sirius.

McCown, 37, is a former third-round pick of the Cardinals back in 2002. He’s played for several teams over the course of his career including the Lions, Raiders, Dolphins, Panthers, 49ers, Bears, Buccaneers and most recently for the Browns.

McCown was entering the final year of his three-year, $14 million contract when the Browns released him in a move that freed up $4,375,000 in available cap space while creating $666,668 in dead money.

In 2016, McCown threw for 1100 yards while completing 54.5 percent of his passes to go along with six touchdowns and six interceptions over the course of five games.
