Cowboys Likely To Place QB Tony Romo On Short-Term I.R., Won’t Undergo Surgery

Update:

Zac Jackson of Pro Football Talk is reporting that Cowboys QB Tony Romo will not undergo surgery on his fractured left clavicle, and is expected to miss around eight weeks.

This fits with previous reports that mentioned Romo is likely to be out 8-10 weeks after he broke his collarbone on Sunday.

According to Ed Werder of ESPN, the Dallas Cowboys are likely to place QB Tony Romo on injured reserve with the designation to return if his CT scan confirms the initial diagnosis of a fractured collarbone.

Adam Schefter reported last night that the timetable for Romo’s return is expected to be 8-10 weeks, which means he’s a more obvious candidate for short-term injured reserve than WR Dez Bryant.

Should the Cowboys end up placing him on I.R. with this designation, Romo would miss the next eight weeks of the season, but he could return to practice after six weeks.

Dallas wasted no time in announcing that Romo had sustained a broken collarbone, so odds are that they’ll go this route with their starting quarterback.

Brandon Weeden will be the team’s starter moving forward, but it would not be surprising to see them bring in another quarterback at some point this week.

Tomo, 35, is in the third year of his seven-year, $119.5 million contract that included $55 million guaranteed.

Over the course of two games, Romo has throw for 551 yards while completing 75 percent of his passes to go along with three touchdowns and two interceptions.

We’ll have more updates regarding Romo’s injury as the news is available.

  1. Michael vick could play the game they need to play behind that line. Vick is fast and hasn’t had a great oline to really get back in the groove we are talking 8 weeks of running the football well vick still has an arm but he needs to find confidence in his team and coaches. I don’t think vick is washed up, but beat up. Just needs the right team with the right fans to make a home. Meanwhile maybe look into drafting something special next year. Lets face it tony could be an elite qb but he isnt because tony has the silver spoon. The truth is spoiled people dont apply themselves and tony was spoiled from the begining carry underwood jessica simpson hell he lost the superbowl chance over her. Just saying tony has more talent then 90% the qb in the league hell in the past 20 years, but he doesnt strive to be a brett farve or peyton manning type player. Its like he dont see from under the shadow of aikman. Buy aikman stayed on his toes. Hell berline was on his heels, romo dont have a berlin because romo has been set in stone. His contract will keep him spoiled.
