Cowboys Likely To Sign HC Jason Garrett To An Extension

Cowboys VP Stephen Jones mentioned that he believes HC Jason Garrett is the “right guy” for the job and sees him as a “big part” of their future.

Jason not only was qualified when he took the job, but he’s improves every day, every week, every month, every year,’’ Jones said, via David Moore of the Dallas Morning News. “You know, one of the things you fear is that you train a guy up and then he leaves and he goes on and he’s even better for the next team than he was for you.

“I think Jason has grown leaps and bounds. We are so comfortable _ you know, comfortable can be a bad word, you want to be on edge too _ but I really think Jason is the right guy for this job.’’

“We’ve got a lot of work to do. But I really think Jason is the right guy for this job, and I know Jerry thinks the same thing. I certainly see Jason being a big part of our future.’’

Garrett seemingly entered the 2014 season on the hot seat with very little expectations, as their defense was coming off of a historically bad season and they didn’t appear to have upgrade the unit much during the offseason.

However, the Cowboys are one of the teams in the mix for both a wildcard spot and the NFC East division title. Sunday’s matchup against the Eagles in Philadelphia will go a long ways towards deciding the NFC East and whether the Cowboys will be in the mix for a playoff spot.

Garrett’s currently in the final year of his current deal, but it appears as though he will be back for a few more years to see if he can continue to build on his recent success.
