Cowboys Making Calls To Other Running Backs, Draft Could Be An Option

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Cowboys are already making calls to other running backs now that it appears as though RB DeMarco Murray will be signing with to the Eagles.

Ian Rapoport mentions that the Cowboys could look to the draft for a replacement to Murray given the amount of depth at the position.

  • Peter Schrager reports that the Eagles are prepared to pay Murray as a top-five running back.
  • Todd Archer has spoken to sources who have said that the real issue the amount of guaranteed money between the Cowboys’ offer and what the Eagles are willing to give him.

Previous reports have said that C.J. Spiller could be a fallback option for the Cowboys in free agency, depending on how things go with Murray. It’s also worth mentioning that Ryan Mathews could still be available, seeing as he’s yet to officially sign an agreement with the Eagles.

There’s no question that the Cowboys are in a great spot to take one of the running backs being discussed as potential first-round picks — Georgia’s Todd Gurley or Wisconsin’s Melvin Gordon.

Dallas could always wait until round two and see who’s on the board at that point in time as well, considering that many expect there to be quality options available at running back as late as round three.

As things stand right now, Dallas has Lance Dunbar, Joseph Randle and Ryan Williams on their roster, so it would probably be best to add another player with a higher upside.
