Cowboys & Patriots Options For Mario Williams?

Dan Pompei of the National Football Post reports that there’s been “league-wide speculation” that the Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots could have interest in signing DE/OLB Mario Williams.

Clearly, the key word here is speculation. The Cowboys are reportedly close to franchising Anthony Spencer so it would be hard to justify signing another outside linebacker especially when you consider that it will take a huge contract to land him. Dallas has worked hard to free up the cap space that they currently have and I can’t see them spending it on one player.

New England is interesting because it would be a great addition to their front-seven. The Patriots don’t have a history of landing top-level free agents so it would be a surprise to see him end up in New England but it would be a great addition for a team that’s looking to upgrade their pass rush.
