Cowboys Placing QB Tony Romo On Short-Term I.R.

Todd Archer of ESPN reports that the Cowboys are placing QB Tony Romo on injured reserve with the designation to return Tuesday.

This move will cost Romo the next eight weeks of the season, but he can return to practice after six weeks.

Given that the Cowboys feel like WR Dez Bryant can return sooner rather than later, it made sense to put Romo on short-term injured reserve and use the extra roster spot to bolster their depth.

Dallas wasted no time in announcing that Romo had sustained a broken collarbone during Sunday’s game. Romo has since announced that he will not be undergoing surgery on his collarbone.

Brandon Weeden will be the team’s starter moving forward, but they are hosting a number of veteran quarterbacks including Christian Ponder, Matt Flynn, and Josh Johnson for workouts Tuesday.

Tomo, 35, is in the third year of his seven-year, $119.5 million contract that included $55 million guaranteed.

Over the course of two games, Romo has throw for 551 yards while completing 75 percent of his passes to go along with three touchdowns and two interceptions.

We’ll have more updates regarding Romo’s injury as the news is available.
