Rob Phillips of DallasCowboys.com tweets that he wouldn’t be surprised to see the Cowboys use their franchise tag on free agent LB Anthony Spencer.
Phillips added that Spencer could command a “(Chris) Canty-like deal” on the open market which would effectively remove the Cowboys from the bidding for his services. Canty actually landed a six-year deal worth $42 million a few years ago.
Spencer is heads a pretty poor class of outside linebackers this year, unless you add Mario Williams to that category. The tag for linebackers will run the team $8.8 million this season which could cause some problems considering that they had to make a lot of moves to free up the limited cap space that they currently.
