Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray Could Command $7-$10M Per Year In Free Agency

Sources tell Jason Cole of the Bleacher Report that Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray is expected to command anywhere from $7-$10 million per year on the open market.

Of course, this will come down to the number of teams with serious interest in signing the free agent running back.

According to Cole, the Cowboys are not interested in compensating Murray at this price, and previously offered him closer to $4 million annually.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media previously reported that the Cowboys have had a four-year contract worth more than $16 million on the table for Murray, which fits with what Cole is saying.

Last week, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones conceded that it will be a “challenge” to bring back both WR Dez Bryant and Murray next year.

The overall expectation has been that Dallas will allow Murray to test the open market and use their franchise tag to retain Bryant for the 2015 season.

Murray, 26, was extremely impressive this season. He ran for 1,845 yards on 393 carries (4.7 YPC) and scored 13 touchdowns, over the course of 16 games and added another 57 receptions for 416 yards receiving.

Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 5 running back in the league out of 57 qualifying players.

We have Murray listed as the No. 9 player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
