Cowboys RBs Joseph Randle & Ryan Williams Could Be Competing For A Roster Spot

Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas mentioned over the holiday weekend that second-year RB Joseph Randle could be in danger of losing his roster spot this summer now that the team has signed Ryan Williams.

Archer was responded to a question in his mailbag in which he was asked about Lance Dunbar‘s future with the team, but he doesn’t think Dunbar is at risk of being cut in the coming months.

However, Archer would rule out the possibility of Williams being the odd man out given that he has a serious injury history and has been limited to playing in only five games over the course of the past three seasons.

DeMarco Murray is locked in as the team’s starter barring an injury, but there should be a decent competition between the others during training camp.

Randle, 22, was a fifth-round draft pick of the Cowboys in 2013. He still has two years remaining on his rookie contract with base salaries of $495,000 and $585,000 coming his way during this time.

Williams, 24, was taken in the second-round of the 2011 NFL draft. He suffered a serious knee injury in his first season in the league and never managed to get his confidence after returning.

He hasn’t appeared in a game since the 2012 season and has been limited to playing just 142 snaps since entering the NFL.
