Cowboys Reached Out To Jason Campbell, Hosting Josh Johnson For Workout

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that the Cowboys have been reaching out to veteran quarterbacks Monday following the injury to Tony Romo.

According to La Canfora, Dallas has contacted QB Jason Campbell, but he’s expected to remain “quasi-retired.”

The Cowboys, however, will be hosting QB Josh Johnson and others for workouts this week.

This comes after Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported that the Cowboys considered the idea of possibly re-signing veteran QB Kyle Orton.

Dallas is still expected to move with Brandon Weeden as their starter while Romo is out, but it appears as though they would like to add a more experienced backup in the coming days.

Johnson, 29, was cut loose by the Bengals not too long ago, and later signed on with the Jets. However, his stay in New York was short lived, as he was among their final roster cuts a few weeks back.

Since then, Johnson has worked out for a few teams, so he’s clearly among the best available quarterback options.

Johnson hasn’t appeared in an NFL game since the 2013 season while playing for the Bengals.
