Cowboys Have Received Trade Offers For G Ronald Leary, Prefer To Keep Him

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones mentioned in an interview with 105.3 The Fan that they have received trade offers for veteran G Ronald Leary. However, they would prefer to hold on to Leary and ensure their offensive line depth, as opposed to trading him.

“We had offers to potentially trade Leary,” Jones said, via the Dallas Morning News. “But that’s the strength of our team. And, so, if we should have an injury we don’t want to drop off. And Leary is a starting player by any definition around the league. But we want him to be here for our depth.”

Leary previously mentioned that he remains open to being traded and that he still wants a chance to land a starting role with an NFL team.

That feeling on my end hasn’t changed at all,” said Leary, via Brandon George.

Leary elected to skip the Cowboys’ voluntary OTAs in the hope of facilitating a trade. However, the Cowboys made it clear that they weren’t giving him away and Leary later attended the team’s mandatory three-day minicamp.

Leary, 27, wound up signing on with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of back in 2012. He spent part of the 2012 season on their practice squad but has since made the 53-man roster each season.

According to OverTheCap.com, trading Leary would free up $2,553,000 in available cap space while creating no dead money.

In 2015, Leary was limited to appearing in four games and played a total of 221 snaps for the Cowboys, according to Pro Football Focus.
