Cowboys Restructure Kyle Orton’s Contract, Sign Will Allen & Justin Durant

Kyle Orton & Anthony Armstrong

According to Calvin Watkins of ESPN, the Cowboys have restructured QB Kyle Orton‘s contract.

Todd Archer reports that the Cowboys released WR Anthony Armstrong on Wednesday.

These moves will free up $1 million in cap space for the Cowboys.

Will Allen & Justin Durant

Following these moves, Dallas officially signed free agents Will Allen and Justin Durant on Wednesday.

Durant receives a two-year contract, while Allen has agreed to a one-year deal.

Todd Archer mentions that both Durant and Allen will both be given the opportunities to compete for starting jobs during training camp.

Doug Free

Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas reports that the Cowboys will not restructure Doug Free‘s contract like was previously reported.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the Cowboys will restructure OT Doug Free‘s contract to free up some extra cap space.

Free, 29, signed a four-year deal worth $32 million that included $17 million guaranteed back in 2011.

He’s been very disappointing since then and has been mentioned as a possible release candidate for months now. Apparently, the Cowboys feel as though he’s still salvageable. We’ll have to see if they move him to guard next year.

The Cowboys could always free up additional cap space by working out long-term contract extensions for QB Tony Romo and DE Anthony Spencer.
