Cowboys RT Doug Free On The Chopping Block?

According to Pro Football Weekly, the Dallas Cowboys would considering the option of releasing starting RT Doug Free next season in favor of practice squad OT Jeremy Parnell.

Since signing four-year, $32 million contract back in 2011, Free has been nothing short of a disappointment. His 2012 season has been plagued by false start and holding penalties, so it makes sense that the Cowboys would consider all available options regarding their right tackle position.

Here’s the catch, Free is set to make $7 million for the 2013 season and it would cost Dallas a $10 million cap hit to release him. Given the amount of money that would have to absorb, it seems as though Free will almost certainly be back with the team next season.

PFW adds that “even if Free comes back, he most certainly will have to rework his deal,” which definitely seems like a reasonable scenario.
