Cowboys Sign DBs Isaiah Frey & Dax Swanson

Todd Archer of ESPN reports that the Cowboys signed DBs Isaiah Frey and Dax Swanson to contracts on Monday.

This comes after the team waived cornerbacks Terrance Mitchell and Brandon McGee on Friday.

Both Frey and Swanson worked out for the Cowboys last week, so they were clearly on the team’s radar.

Swanson, 24, signed with the Colts as an undrafted free agent out of Sam Houston State back in 2013. However, he’s played for a number of teams since entering the league including the 49ers, Patriots Buccaneers, Giants and Dolphins.

Miami signed Swanson to their practice squad mid-season and later brought him back on a future/reserve contract. However, he was cut loose in the days leading up to free agency.

Swanson has yet to appear in an NFL game.

Frey, 26, is a former sixth-round pick of the Bears back in 2012. Hhe spent just over two years in Chicago before he waived at the start of the 2014 season and later signed to the Bears’ practice squad.

Since then, Frey has played for the Buccaneers and Steelers. Pittsburgh brought him back on a future/reserve contract only to release him a few weeks after this year’s draft.

In 2014, Frey appeared in 11 games for the Buccaneers and recorded 27 tackles, a pass defense, two forced fumbles and a recovery.
