Thompson, 23, wound up going undrafted out of Utah back in May of last year. He signed on with the Patriots but spent just a few months in New England before he was waived at the start of the 2017 season.
Thompson had brief stints with the Bears and Seahawks as a practice squad member this past season.
Thompson actually began his college career as a quarterback at Wyoming before transferring to Utah and converting to defensive back for the 2015 season.
In total, Thompson recorded 21 tackles and a fumble recovery at Utah.
